Denise Knowles

Denise joined Relate in 1990 and qualified as a counsellor two years later. She maintains her couple counselling caseload, and has worked tirelessly over the last 20 years to expand the range of her interests and expertise, becoming a highly skilled practitioner and qualified psychosexual therapist, family counsellor, supervisor and trainer. She is also a well-known media spokesperson. Denise also runs a successful private practice, Emotional Insights Ltd.

Denise’s special interests include psycho-sex therapy, Family Counselling, couple and individual counselling, relationship education and health promotion. She is also experienced at dealing with issues around domestic violence, depression and surviving sexual abuse. Denise is an integral member of the counselling and training team of her local Relate Centre, Northampton, offering courses such as Parenting Skills, Moving On and other life-skills workshops.

Denise Knowles is often the first choice of many of the major national television news networks when comments are sought on current relationship and family topics. She has been interviewed live on air in television and national radio studios as well as by telephone on live links. The need to deal with such demands on a daily basis has given Denise the ability to successfully juggle a varied daily output and Denise is well versed in coping with complex questions in an empathic and understanding manner as well as thinking on her feet.

Denise has a great deal of experience as a radio and magazine agony aunt, including a weekly slot on BBC Radio Northampton. Denise has earned a reputation for contributing swiftly and effectively to requests from national media. She is frequently interviewed for national news stories on the BBC One O’Clock News, Sky News and Radio Five Live and has gone head to head with John Humphreys on Radio Fours’s Today Programme. She appears regularly on national discussion TV and radio shows including GMTV, This Morning, Woman’s Hour and many more.

She works as a relationship & family expert for Pampers and for web-sites, including Savvy Women which is a site devoted to financial problems. Denise has been a contributor to many books written on and about relationships.

The increasing demand by international companies to have Denise speak at major conferences in Europe and contribute to publications on a variety of health issues concerning the well being of the family has increased her reputation as a health professional of unique standing.

Denise is married and as an active grandmother and mother of three, Denise has a wealth of first hand experience when it comes to matters concerning relationships on the home front and with a tireless pursuit of excellence in everything she becomes involved with, Denise usually finds that she can be of help to most people seeking relationship, sexual and family advice. Denise has recently become a trustee of a disability charity, working on a variety of projects to enhance the quality of life of those with disability.
